RELEVANCE - “Content is King” The more high quality content on your site that is related to the words or phrases used by someone in a search (ie:“residential real estate”), the more “RELEVANT” it is considered by Google. Do an analysis of the copy or text on your site, looking to see if the phrases that you think your customers might use in a Google search for your products or services are on every page and repeated throughout your copy. These key words are vital and the only way that Google can determine how to classify and rank your site for search purposes.
Local Searches - Over 80% of searches done online now include a city or community as part of the search phrase, for example, “Burbank plumber”. So make sure that the communities that you serve are also included on every page. Google and other search engines cannot classify and rank your site content if you don’t help them. So give them the information they need to rank your site properly.
Search Engine Optimization- This process is part of what is called “search engine optimization”. This is one of two important factors on the road to a fully optimized site that will improve your visibility online. One way to start evaluating your content is to compare your site’s content to other similar sites in your industry and do it with a very critical eye.
- Does your site have lots of detailed information for customers to read about your products and/or services?
- Is the copy written with lots of “key words”, words and phrases repeated throughout.
- Are these phrases the ones that would be commonly used in a Google search for your services?
- Is the navigation from page to page simple and clear? Will the visitor be able to easily figure out where he is and how to get back to other pages he already visited?
- Does your design and layout project a professional image?
- Is your text broken up with related photos or images? Are the photos optimized?
- Are you updating and adding more relevant content on a regular basis (at least every 6 months)?
