The Right People

We are big on networking if case you haven’t noticed. Most employers know that great employees are worth every dime and then some. In today’s competitive job market, finding the right people can be daunting.  Here are some tips to make this important process more effective:

1. Network, Network, Network:

Asking others for an employee referral is one of the best ways to find good people. Most business owners will not refer anyone who is not good, because a bad referral will reflect badly on them.

2. Talk to your customers:

Maybe your favorite corporate customer has a nephew at Burbank High who is ambitious and looking for a summer job before heading off to college.

3. Use employment agencies to try out a temp:

This gives you a chance to get to know the person before hiring them on permanently.

4. Interview intensely:

Trust your instincts. Even if the resume looks great, if something doesn’t strike you right, chances are you’ve picked up on something that is a serious flaw. You can always interview others and bring them back for a second or third interview later.

5. Advertise:

Try the Burbank Leader (now owned by the L.A. Times) on their massive Career Builder website or you can also list on the www.justBurbank.com Classifieds page and on Craig’s List.

Of course the best employees are usually from connections in your circle of friends and associates. So, if you still need more “right people” your best bet is to keep on networking!
